For God knows how long, I always had a thing for Russian history, I simply like the culture and I’m quite amused by it. I was subscribed to [Mosfilm](https://www.youtube.com/c/MosfilmRuOfficial)’s youtube channels (or [Mosfilm ENG](https://www.youtube.com/c/Mosfilm_eng)), and they have many, many Russian movies with subtitles including many languages, I’m astounded by the sheer amount of movies that are uploaded here.
In my own culture, we look with sheer astonishment and awe to the films of the past, though they seem ridiculously basic or out of line at times. They cultivate and encapsulate a sensation of their Zeitgeist, and leave behind an amazing memory. Thus, I want to understand the Russian view from the standpoint of movies.
Where should I start with? Which ones present the Russian language and the culture better according to you? Which are the ones that you find most relatable with?
For example, a while back I had some clips of the «[Office Romance](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hR-1QGMK75c&ab_channel=%D0%9A%D0%B8%D0%BD%D0%BE%D0%BA%D0%BE%D0%BD%D1%86%D0%B5%D1%80%D0%BD%22%D0%9C%D0%BE%D1%81%D1%84%D0%B8%D0%BB%D1%8C%D0%BC%22)» by Ryanazov, and I was so surprised and amused by it. Now, I was looking to Gaidai’s «[Ivan Vassilyevich Changes Occupation](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a50qT9bW2Qo&ab_channel=%D0%9A%D0%B8%D0%BD%D0%BE%D0%BA%D0%BE%D0%BD%D1%86%D0%B5%D1%80%D0%BD%22%D0%9C%D0%BE%D1%81%D1%84%D0%B8%D0%BB%D1%8C%D0%BC%22)». I am yet to watch these movies and I’m wondering how do you feel about such films.
(Please consider the Tarkovsky, Eisenstein, and many other mainstream directors alike **out of the question**. I’ve seen most of such directors’ movies, including the new generations (*Kantemir Balagov, Zvyagintsev, Sokurov* etc.) I want to get a hint and a feeling of the life in Russia back in the second half of the 20th century.)
Thanks in advance!
